Wall Construction

Single skin concrete blockwork
As the name suggests this process involves building one boundary defining wall of alternately stacked concrete blocks held together with a sand and cement mixture usually prepared by the least interested and lowest paid worker on the construction team. With external forces (cold, damp etc) all happily working their way throughout the entirety of each block, and thus bringing the outside inside, single skin blockwork has still been in use for decades. Due to this extended period of proven use this is without doubt the best method to use in the construction of your development.

Cavity blockwork
Exactly the same method of construction as the single skin one reviewed above the cavity method however involves building a secondary wall inside of the first one separated with a 4 inch gap. Despite the obvious issue of making all of your rooms a little bit smaller the cavity affect does offer a nice barrier / air gap between cold and damp transfer from the exterior wall. Costing twice as much to build as single skin but keeping you at least twice as warm this is without doubt the best method to use in the construction of your development.

Timber frame
Coming in at nearly a third of the price of using concrete blocks to construct your property and able to be thrown up in much, much less time Timber frame construction is the most widely used wall construction method on the planet. Ignoring the fact that 4" wooden walls are prone to smearing themselves across five different counties at the nearest whiff of a tornado or hurricane, timber frame benefits from being hugely environmentally friendly and much easier to remove once you and your vain need for some permanent reminder of your existence have shuffled off this earth. Due to these advantages this is without doubt the best method to use in the construction of your development.

Straw
If the three little pigs taught us anything it's that straw as a construction method certainly has its drawbacks. Then again if you don't find yourself under occasional attack by vindictive or hungry wolves (and who does in this modern world of ours) then the low cost and ease of construction when using straw does mean it offers several benefits for the budget conscious developer. Add to this the readily available supplies of material for extensions and maintenance and this is without doubt the best method to use in the construction of your development.
